The knights of Lichtenstein

Lichtenstein castle has been a very popular castle because of its fairytale appearance, but in its original shape it was rather plain, though fortified. There is a throat ditch separating the peak on which it was built from the rest of the hill top. Its primary purpose was to provide a haven to the owners during times of turmoil.
The beautiful tower was added only about a hundred years ago. The castle was turned into a hunting lodge in 1802 for its royal owners, the dukes of Wurttemberg.
The castle has been successfully defeated at least twice in its early history despite the difficult terrain that had to be overcome by its adversaries. The lower rooms of the castle were carved directly into the rock formation that supports it.

I looked this up with my Dad and found alot more castles and old Churches that i will be posting about.

Cochem

The present status is that it is rebuilt/open to the publicand tours.

Earliest date known is 1000.

Earliest family name,it was built by Franconian Palatine Counts.

Cochem is probably the finest looking castle and scene directly on the banks of the Mosel river. The castle enjoys a commanding view over the Mosel and the town of Cochem. However even with the commanding view and the steep access to the castle history has not been kind to the original. It was siezed by the German emperor in 1151 and in 1294 was mortgaged to the archbishop of Trier.

The square tower visible at the center of the castle is the keep that served as a last gasp refuge for its residents when the battle created a serious threat of breach by the enemy. This did in fact happen in 1689 when King Louis XIV of France had the castle totally destroyed. It remained a ruin for about 200 years.

It was completely rebuilt by a Berlin merchant, Louise Ravene, according to the original plans. So, while the structure may not be the original, the plans are true to the original. It was sold by force to the German government in 1942 and since 1978 has been the property of the town of Cochem.

i was just thinking of Anne-Marie and thought that i should post some pics of New Zealand.

I know "there just cows"right?Wrong they are New Zealand cows,sweet!

Ilive to go there and visit some time but i doubt that will happen any time soon:(

I was just thinking that I should ask her to get a blog,maybe.

you can get
little toys of like everything halo they are very cool.
i wanted to get one of the warthog but i don't know what i would do with it .
the pic with the three guys is for football.i watched a alitte bit of football yesterday and i did not understand it but i did understand that they lost.that is to sad:( i really don't care that much but what ever.
